Changes for 2026 Trial:​​

  • All classes, except Futurity, will now buy slot(s)​​

    • ​May 1st, slots are all paid by this date​

      • No reimbursement unless trial is canceled​

    • Classes, except Futurity, have caps

    • September 1st, all requirements meant (Dog named, permanently registered, DNA profiled) or dog is disqualified

      • Contestants can sell slots or change dogs until September 1st

  • Maturity is now $250

Classes

  • Futurity Class (See full payment schedule at bottom of page) - Form entries to be posted

    • Dog can be entered at any time up to the Futurity date (late fees apply, contact Association)

    • Dog cannot be over 27 months old as of November 1, 2026. To qualify, dog must be whelped on or after August 1, 2024.

    • No entry cap on Futurity

    • 7 entries minimum for saddle prize

    • Any missed payment and entry is cancelled. To re-enter dog, penalty applies. 

    • Payment Schedule for Futurity: $50 each time IF payment schedule is followed​ plus $50 cattle charge

      • 1st payment January 1st to January 31st

      • 2nd payment due March 1st 

      • 3rd payment due May 1st 

      • 4th payment due July 1st 

      • 5th payment due September 1st plus $50 cattle charge 

      • Final payment, due by or at Futurity date

    • 2 Go-rounds finals

    • Prize money, buckle

    • Rules meeting, day-before at 5pm at Rodeo Grounds

  • Supreme Cowdog Class -​​​

    • $350 fee ($300 class fee plus $50 cattle charge)

    • Purchase slot by 5/1/26

      • Must name dog, permanently register, and DNA profile by September 1st​

      • Slots can be sold and dogs name changed until September 1st

      • There is a 10-slot cap on this class

      • 7 entries minimum for saddle prize

    • Must be previously Supreme Qualified OR entered in the Supreme Qualifier that runs on Wed 11/4/2026

    • 2 Go-rounds & finals

    • Prize money, buckle

    • Same rules as futurity

    • Rules meeting, day-before at 5pm at Rodeo Grounds

  • Supreme Qualifying Session -​

    • $50 fee​

    • Sign up by slot purchase by 5/1/26 

    • Event in Seymour, TX at Charlie Trayer's place

    • Qualifying session runs on Wednesday ***11/4/2026*** at 8:00 am. This is the 'Supreme Qualifying Session'

    • Any dog that qualifies during the Supreme Session can still be entered in the Supreme Cowdog Class (MUST BE ENTERED THAT DAY)​

  • Maturity Class -

    • $250 fee ($200 class fee plus $50 cattle charge)

    • Purchase slot by 5/1/26

  • Novice Class -

    • $75 fee ($50 class entry plus $25 cattle charge) 

    • Purchase slot by 5/1/26

      • Must name dog, permanently register, and DNA profile by September 1st​

      • Slots can be sold and dogs name changed until September 1st

      • There is a 10-slot cap on this class

    • For any member that has not won any money or prizes in other trials

    • Maximum winning cap $300

    • They can use any age Hangin' Tree Cowdog

    • 2 Go-rounds and finals

    • Prize money and buckle​

    • Rules meeting, day-before at 5pm at Rodeo Grounds

  • Youth Class -

    • $50 entry fee, no cattle charge

    • Purchase slot by 5/1/26

      • Must name dog, permanently register, and DNA profile by September 1st​

      • Slots can be sold and dogs name changed until September 1st

      • There is a 10-slot cap on this class

    • For members 16 years of age and younger​

    • They can use any age Hangin' Tree Cowdog

    • Prize money & buckle​​

    • Rules meeting, day-before at 5pm at Rodeo Grounds

 

  • Stud Dog Nomination -

    • Nominate Stud Dogs for $100. If pup out of nominated stud wins the futurity the owner of stud wins the purse. Purse 80% to winner 20% to association. If no one wins it rolls over to next year. 

    • Stud dog can be nominated at ANY time BEFORE the Futurity​

    • Any member can nominate a stud dog; only one nomination per dog

    • Winnings go to nominator

Explanation of Rounds and Payouts

 

  • Each go round points & time - Each go round pays 10% of total purse.

    • If under 10 dogs entered 2 moneys 60%-40%. 

    • If 10 or more dogs entered 3 moneys 50%-30%-20%.

  • Finals - Total combined points & time of the two go rounds.  Top 1 per 3 dogs entered go to finals.  

    • If 6 or less dogs entered, 2 go to finals.  

    • 7 to 9 dogs entered, 3 to finals.

    • 10 to 12 dogs entered, 4 to finals. 

    • 13 or more dogs entered, top 5 to finals.

  • Finals pay 2 moneys

    • If less than 12 dogs entered, 70% - 30% plus prizes.

    • If 12 or more dogs entered 3 moneys 50%-30%-20%.

  • Dates and times are subject to change if deemed necessary.

    • Board of Directors will review entries after May 1st sign-up deadline.​

  • All futurity expenses must come out before any prize money is established.

  • 10% of total purse goes to association.

  • Dog must be a Permanent Registered Hangin’ Tree Cowdog by futurity time and DNA tested (see HTCA Trial Dogs for rules). No prize money or prizes given out until DNA results are received by the association office.
